The most obvious is the growth of the baby, which moves your gravity centre forward. To avoid falling forward and to maintain balance, you pull your upper body backwards which increases you lower back’s arch.
The second reason is that with the growth of the belly, your abdominal belt is stretched more than usual. Your abdominal muscles loose their tonus and strength; therefore the normal balance between the abdominal and the lower back muscles change. This results in increased contraction of your lower back muscles.
The last reason is hormonal - the increase of oestrogen and relaxin secretion distends your ligament and decreases the tonus of your abdominal muscles.
Not surprisingly, these the factors combined with stress often lead to lower back pain.
