Why should I do pelvic floor rehabilitation before toning my abdominal muscles?

Once your pregnancy is over, you will understandably want to get back in shape and tone your stomach as soon as possible, however your specialist may direct you towards pelvic floor rehabilitation before beginning your exercise plan. It is really important that you let your body recover from the changes it has been through over the last nine months, especially your abdominal muscles. it is important to know that your body needs time to recover from the changes you went through during these nine months, especially when it concerns your abdominal muscles. During pregnancy your abdominal muscles become stretched and lose their toning due to both hormonal secretion (relaxin and oestrogen) and the increasing size of your baby.

When abdominal muscles contract, they put pressure on your bladder and womb. To avoid any inconveniences such as incontinence or a prolapsed womb, it is important to only start abdominal re-education when your pelvic floor is strong enough to handle the pressure. You will need to wait until your pelvic floor re-education has finished before starting any abdominal and postural exercises, however once your pelvic floor is strengthened, no more excuses! It will be time to get back to fitness with abdominal exercises, to lose weight, regain a flat stomach and your ideal shape.

When can I start exercising my abdominal muscle post pregnancy?

It’s important that you wait between 6 to 8 weeks before doing any sport, even more if you wish to exercise your tummy post pregnancy.

Our specialists use the Hypopressive Method in London to help your tummy getting back in shap quickly and safely

Why hypopressive gymnastic is the safest and most efficient method to tone and exercise your abdominal post pregnancy?

abdominal_reconditioning_001

The Hypopressive method reduces waist size, ensures a flat stomach and increases abdominal toning. A study conducted in 2010 showed a reduction in waistline of 3.5cm after 14 weeks using the Hypopressive Method for 10 minutes a day. A lot of post-partum women rush back to yoga, Pilates or even strenuous exercise in the hope of regaining their pre-pregnancy figure, however this can cause a lot more damage than good, sometimes leading to diastasis recti or abdominal separation. The pelvic muscles are not strong enough to cope with the pressure and nor are the abdominal muscles. The Hypopressive Method will enable women to regain a slim figure but more importantly in a safe and healthy manner, and has also been proven to be extremely effective for women suffering with diastasis recti.
