Mummy’s Physio offers either a specific Physiotherapy abdominal rehabilitation and exercises either a complete fitness program tailored by our London personal trainer and Post natal Pilates instructor that you will be able to undergo at home.

The program is tailored to suit your physical strength and the time you can dedicate to the exercises. Our London personal trainer or postnatal Pilates instructor will start with a full check-up. She will test your muscles, evaluate your muscular and postural deficiency and finally will take into consideration your childbirth method. With this personalised treatment you will be soon forget the back pain; regain a flat toned belly and your ideal shape.

Why should I do pelvic floor rehabilitation before toning my abdominal muscles?

During pregnancy, your abdominal muscles become stretched and lose their tonus due to the hormonal secretion (relaxin and oestrogen) and due to the increasing weight of your baby. The muscular imbalance between your abdominal and you lower back will increase your lower back arch as well as the pain, as your baby is growing.

Once your pregnancy is over, you will understandably want to get back in shape and have your belly flat and toned as soon as possible. But be careful – it is important to know that your body needs time to recover from the changes you went through during these nine months, especially when it concerns your abdominal muscles. When abdominal muscles contract, they put pressure on your bladder and womb. To avoid any inconvenience as incontinence or prolapsed womb, it is important to only start abdominal re-education when your pelvic floor is strong enough to handle the pressure. You will have to wait for the end of you pelvic floor re-education to start any abdominal and postural exercises.
But once your pelvic floor is strengthened, no more excuses …, it is time to go back to sports with abdominal exercises, to lose weight, regain flat belly and your ideal shape.

Hypopressive Method or Hypopressive gymnastic to tone abdominal muscles and regain a slim figure safely (London)

A study done in 2010 showed a reduction in waistline of 3.5cm after 14 weeks using the Hypopressive Method for 10 minutes a day. A lot of post partum women rush back to yoga, Pilates or even strenuous exercise in the hope of regaining their figure pre pregnancy. This is a common mistake that can cause a lot more damage than good. The pelvic muscles are not strong enough to bear with that kind of pressure nor are the abdominal muscles. The Hypopressive Method will enable most women to regain a slim figure but more importantly in a safe and healthy manner.

The main goal, which the method was developed for, is to improve the tonicity of the core muscles, support and reposition the pelvic organs.
Excessive abdominal exercises during the first trimester of pregnancy can lead to diastase, other causes are multiple pregnancies, weight of the baby at birth and women over 35.
