Information about Postnatal Mummy’s Physio MOT, Physiotherapy Assessment & Treatments for Post-Natal Conditions in London

What is a Postnatal Mummy’s Phyio MOT or Postnatal Assessment?

Our physiotherapist or osteopath will check the following points during your Postnatal Mummy’s Physio Mot and Postnatal check-up:

How can Physiotherapy treatments help pregnancy-related and post-natal conditions?

During your Mummy’s Physio Mot, Our specialist Postnatal Physiotherapist will conduct a physical postnatal assessment, and listen to your worries to ensure they tailor an effective and safe treatment plan for your rehabilitation. They will assess your pelvic closure, the lower ribs, sacrum, pubic symphysis, pelvic floor and abdominal muscles, viscera, back alignment and posture to make sure that nothing goes unchecked.

Why am I suffering from post-natal conditions after labour?

Many women suffer from post-natal conditions after pregnancy that can cause pain and increase uncomfortable sensations. Alongside the stress on your body from pregnancy and labour, new activities such as feeding and carrying your baby will put strain on different muscles that you may have never felt before. Pregnancy hormones can also impact on your health, as they continue to affect your muscles and ligaments for around 6 months after birth, making them not as strong as they once were, which places pressure and increased risks of injury on other parts of your body.

After Your Postnatal Checkup (Mummy’s Physio MOT), Our Postnatal physiotherapist can provide the following Postnatal Physiotherapy Treatment in London

Episiotomy or tearing pain – your Physiotherapist will use a mixture of gentle massage techniques to heal and stretch any scars, scar tissue and your pelvic muscles. They will also teach you how to massage yourself so that you can continue your treatment at home.

Pelvic pain and pain during intercourse – Pelvic pain, especially during intercourse, can be particularly debilitating for women after giving birth. Using combinations of relaxation and self-massage, with techniques to stretch the muscles of the perineum and pelvis, your Physiotherapist will provide a long-term solution for pain relief. She will also help you to develop an awareness of your perineum and ways to relax it. Our postnal physio will also teach you methods to relax your abdominal muscle through respiratory work.

Urinary or anal incontinence and prolapse – Our Physiotherapists will provide a treatment programme of pelvic floor re-education, using methods of manual rehabilitation, electro stimulation, biofeedback and hypopressive gymnastics. They will also give you advice on lifestyle solutions for incontinence and certain exercises to both avoid post-partum, and ones to practice in between sessions.

Visceral problems and constipation – the Physiotherapists at Mummy’s Physio will work on your visceral organs, use K-Taping and provide abdominal massage alongside mobilisation techniques around your intestines.

Diastasis abdominal – K-Taping, Hypopressive Gymnastics, education about “good abs” and methods of achieving them, alongside intensive abdominal rehabilitation are all techniques that are used by our Physiotherapist in treating diastasis.

Painful menstruation – our Physiotherapists will mobilise your uterus and pelvic bones using different types of massage to relieve you of pain during menstruation

Back pain – Physiotherapy treatment will target your posture, and use methods to guide it so that you can get back to your full strength, alongside abdominal rehabilitation exercises, massage and back rehabilitation techniques.

Respiratory issues (shortness of breath) – Physiotherapy can help to relax your diaphragm and teach you different breathing methods so that you feel much freer and less stressed.

Caesarean section – by mobilising and stretching your caesarean scar and the uterine ligaments and uterine walls underneath it, our Physiotherapists can relieve you of uncomfortable sensations and pain. Visceral and abdominal rehabilitation at an early stage alongside education on how to carry your baby after birth will ensure a safe recovery for you

Pain after epidural – manual techniques such as soft and gentle massages, realignment of the body and relieving tension in your uterus muscles will relieve you of pain after your epidural

Cellulite and weight loss – our Physiotherapists will use methods such as lymphatic drainage and circulatory massage as well as palper rouler, a technique to break down adipose tissue accumulated during pregnancy for cellulite and weight loss. They will also give you nutritional and probiotic advice

Flat stomach, aesthetic, going back to sport – our Physiotherapists are specialised in adapted post-natal abdominal rehabilitation, use of the hypopressive method, adapted sport exercises and core-gymnastics
